Christmas is also shared with Remy's birthday. I take full blame with Remy having to share his birthday with such an important holiday. I did the math nine months prior and chose to try nonetheless thinking the odds were slim. Second, while pregnant numerous people would ask me if I wanted a boy or a girl. I always replied the same thing, "I don't care just so long as the baby's not born on Christmas day." Like I said, I take full blame. I did this to Remy. However, that being said, Remy handles his birth date like a champ. He actually seems proud to be born on Christmas day. He asks stangers frequently to guess his birthday, then he enthusiastically tells them it's Christmas day. Most people offer some kind of condolence to either Remy or me. Remy doesn't accept it. He says it's great because he gets double presents. This is where I think Ron and I did something right. We always make sure Remy's birthday is not overlooked. He wakes up to birthday balloons and birthday wishes before anyone ever sees stockings or Santa's surprises. Christmas dinner also includes whatever favorite dish he desires. Christmas evening is capped with a second round of gifts wrapped in colorful birthday papers and only for one person. And of course, the only dessert after Christmas dinner is the custom birthday cake Remy's requested from me. It really is a great day from beginning to exhausting end. I will say decorating a cake every Christmas afternoon is beginning to wear on me but I'd never let my first born down.
This year was Remy's eighth birthday. Time is flying by. It was sadly pointed out to me on Christmas night that Remy is now halfway to 16. I did not want to hear that. Remy still chooses to just have family and no parties for his birthday. This year he did request our neighbors come for cake and they graciously obliged. Without further ado . . . Happy Birthday Remy!
This year he was very specific with me regarding his cake. It had to be a blue dragon with a yellow belly, black spikes, a red eye . . .
. . . and ninja cupcakes.
Time for those double presents.
Love this little smile. His bounty this year included: video games, Marvel and DC encyclopedias, Lego sets, Bionicle bed sheets and a box full of vintage Galidor figures.
I hope your wishes come true Remy.
What a great cake! I remember Remy's birth as I was upstairs holding off preterm labor with Hayes and Teresa came to visit while getting you a root beer!
ReplyDeleteBlast it all - now I'll have that "half of 16" comment stuck in my head as Hayes approaches her 8th in February. Thanks, Resa, thanks a lot ;)
